Q. What does my son need to tryout?
A. His DragonFly must be approved. We will provide all the safety equipment but recommend he furnish his girdle and cleats
Q. My son has never played tackle football, will he be able to play?
A. Absolutely, we have many first time football players that have joined our program in the past. We will teach him the fundamentals to the game with the focus on student athlete safety.
Q. When do summer workouts begin?
A. Summer workouts begin June 20th 2023 for rising Freshman. Workouts will take place from 730-10am. He must arrive early to weigh in between 7-720. If he is late - he will not be able to practice that day.
Q. What if my family has a summer vacation or family reunion schedule will football sessions are scheduled?
A. We would like to see families to take their major vacation during the week of July 3rd and the week of July 17th. These are the two weeks that nothing football related will be planned. We also take every Friday off so that families can have an extended weekend for summer trips. Players will not be able to scrimmage or play in a game until the days are made up. It is extremely important that players attend workouts and practices. Football games are not won on Thursday and Friday night, they are won in the off-season. Your cooperation in this process would be helpful.
Q. When are summer workouts?
A. Please see the calendar on the bottom of the "HOME" page.
Q. How will I know he made the team?
A. Everyone makes the team! Student Athletes cut themselves; generally by missing practice, poor academics, not acting right in school or not following policies and procedures.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. We recommend you purchase a girdle and cleats - that price will vary.
--- Program costs are the following:
$125 - for Team Camp (VARSITY ONLY - July 25th - 27th)
$125 - Pre-Game Meals
$24 - $52 1/4 Zip Pullover to wear to School ... this is a ONE TIME purchase... there are multiple options listed on the Team Shop
Q. When is practice when school starts?
A. We will practice right after school (unless otherwise notified) until roughly 545/6pm.
Q. How long are practices?
A. Practices will usually take about 3 hours during the summer and will vary a little during the season. JV practice on Wednesday and Varsity Thursday practice will last about an hour.
Q. Does the football team have a workout and practice rules and what they punishments for breaking them?
A. Our most basic rule is be on time, at the right place and doing the right thing. Being late for a workout or a practice will result in “Character Builders” or reduction of playing time. If we want to win championships, we must be committed!!
Q. What if I play a sport in the off-season?
A. That’s great and STRONGLY encouraged! We want as many of the football players wrestling, playing basketball, baseball or running track and the coaching staff will attend most events. We will work with the coaches of the other programs to find a way to accomplish both programs objectives. Players must find a way to lift. These conflicts need to be discussed with Coach Buck in advance to find a reasonable solution for the development of the athlete in multiple sports. You are expected to lift weights if you plan on playing football. You can play other sports without lifting weights, but you cannot successfully play football without lifting weights.
Q. Will student athletes get any publicity?
A. We do have a great relationship with multiple media outlets and will continue to promote our student athletes. We do NOT allow student athletes to be interviewed by the media without Coach Bucks permission. Please understand media requests will become more frequent if the TEAM is winning football games and doing it the right way.
Q. Will my son be recruited to play college football?
A. YES!! He absolutely will have the exposure to be recruited. However, recruiting a student athlete starts in the classroom. The higher the GPA – the more options your son will have to continue his academic and playing career at the collegiate level. Ultimately, the level of recruitment is a combination of GPA, projected size / ability, and performance on the field. Coach Buck and the staff have cultivated tremendous relationships with college coaches across the country – as well as with recruiting companies that are paid by the colleges and NOT YOU! Please consult Coach Buck before you pay for any “Recruiting Service” the majority of them are a money grab that generate no benefit to the student athlete.
Q. What are the eligibility requirements for football?
A. Students must participate in our program year around. They must comply with the NCHSSA rules and regulations as well as the additional requirements by Wake County Schools. That information is easier found on the internet www.NCHSAA.org. If you have additional questions or a special situation, please see Coach Buck or the athletic director.
Q. Will playing football impact my grades?
A. YES!! Studies have shown that students that are actively engaged in football programs generally maintain or improve their grades. This is due to the additional academic requirements necessary to play football and the motivation from the coaching staff. Studies also show that when a student drops out of football program his grades decline.
Q. Injuries are a part of football, is the football program equipped with the proper staff and facilities to treat these injuries?
A. Football is a collision sport and injuries are part of the game. We always have a trainer present at practice and workouts. If the trainer suggests a player not be allowed to continue then the player will follow the trainer’s suggestion; the trainer has final say…period! If a player is injured, they MUST attend therapy as advised by the trainer. ALL INJURIES, NO MATER HOW SMALL, SHOULD BE REPORTED TO COACH BUCK IMMEDIATLEY!! Injured players are expected to attend practice daily, unless otherwise agreed upon by the trainer and Coach Buck.
